Tuscan Hills

Boy, did October blow by!

Amidst the changing leaves and cooler fall days, I finally made a trip to a small hill town about 3 hours north of Viterbo called Montepulciano. This little Tuscan gem is best known for serving delicious platers of fresh prosciutto, salami, and various other cold cuts. And of course, always cheese.

A friend of mine from school was gracious enough to accompany me for our day journey outside of Viterbo's mediaeval walls.

After our scenic train ride through the region of Lazio, we began our day strolling the ancient streets. Side note, for those of you who have not been to Montepulciano, the entire city is built on a small mountain peak. With this being said, most of our walk throughout the city took place at a 45 degree incline. Which did not suit my casual-social-wannabe-Italian outfit.

I like to think that the hills were actually as steep as they felt, and that I wasn't just out of shape from eating delicious cheese and bread for the past 2 months.

Regardless of the incline, the 360 degree views of the Tuscan country side were spectacular. Our random day trip in October turned out to be the perfect opportunity to witness the fall colors of wine country.

The view from the top of the towns ancient bell tower was my favorite. (The four story climb up a mouse whole size staircase- not so much. But well worth it.)

After exploring, we treated ourselves to some delicious plate of antipasti, or appetizers.
